Get to know Looping Faces and the Singapore based designer behind the brand, Xin who fearlessly explores new materials, textures, and forms, infusing their designs with a sense of dynamism and originality that captivates.

“I started Looping Faces back in 2021 when I was searching for an informal outlet to share my crochet practice in London. Focusing on creating outlandish designs allowed me to explore the sculptural potentials of crochet through wearable art. The crochet pieces evolved into a reflection of my various identities and those of my clients. Today, Looping Faces is my way of celebrating our diverse self-identities, and a space where I truly feel free from the weight of the world. “

Where does your creative inspiration come from?

I’m heavily inspired by my friends and the various people I meet in the creative community of London and Singapore. I’m always trying to understand my position in the world. Meeting new people and entering new spaces are always filled with a level of intensity that I rationalise through my practice. Looping Faces is a way for me to cope and meditate on these experiences, and ultimately produce works emotionally charged by the various experiences and individuals that I encounter in my life.

Where do you see Looping Faces going from where it is now?

I truly hope that it’ll continue to be a space that I can escape to and that others can feel a part of. Since moving back to Singapore, i’ve been working on a series of garments and hope to collaborate with other creatives in Singapore to create something new!

What advice do you have for other young creatives trying to start a brand?

Don’t feel tied down to what others say about you or your practice. I think it’s really important to truly, deeply enjoy what you make because the authenticity will translate to your audience and you’ll never feel like the need to compromise your identity to fit a mould! What's yours will always be yours.
